The 1997-W Proof $5 Gold Jackie Robinson was issued to mark the 60th Anniversary of his Major League debut and to honor his efforts as a civil rights leader.

This proof has one of the lower mintages in the $5 Gold Commemorative series with just 24,072 coins issued. This coin was released in a special 'Legacy Set' that included the $5 Gold proof commemorative coin with a baseball card, pin, and patch. The special baseball card is scarce and was only released in these Legacy Sets. As a result the baseball card created its own rarity market in the sports memorabilia scence. 

Today the Proof Jackie Robinson is one of the more valuable issues of the $5 Gold Commemorative Series.

This set is complete and consists of all Original Government Packaging (OGP) as shipped by the United States Mint in 1997.
